The current binding mechanism is good, but it is missing some aspects.

It would be great to have irssi-like "insert_text" behavior, i.e. to bind keys to special characters, or to allow custom shortcuts for extended actions.

Example use case: pre-fill the room topic with a single Ctrl-T key press:
