MUC-less login and IRC users on my roster
This is probably impossible with the current design, but: it would be nice if I could just login to an IRC server. IRC doesn't demand that people join rooms to use it and I often use it this way. I can add addresses like friend!irc.freenode.net@irc.kousu.ca to my roster, but they don't work without first also joining a MUC:
@ [07:28:03 PM] error while sending message ( Not connected to IRC server irc.freenode.net ) @
I can already get server messages from irc.freenode.net@irc.kousu.ca and send messages back to it (not that it responds to them). I can send messages
So, my first feature request is that contacting a user via IRC should start an IRC connection. I realize that MUCs are special: they have nicks and passwords attached when you join them, so you would need some way to tell those to Biboumi; can Biboumi attach data to your vCard or something?
My second feature request would be if Biboumi logged into saved IRC servers when I logged into XMPP so that presence on XMPP is mapped to presence on IRC. It be smoothest if it constructed the list of IRC servers by scanning my roster and MUC bookmarks.
/Really/ what I want I to set up a second xmpp account, kousu@irc.freenode.net.irc.kousu.ca, which proxies me to irc://kousu@irc.freenode.net and logs me in to IRC. That would be way better than jumping through transport hoops. To be honest, this is entirely because I hate IRC clients and that they lose history, and I'm already using XMPP everywhere else and don't want to keep track of a zillion extra bouncer apps. Do XMPP external components even allow that sort of design?
